In the night...

The dark surrounds me, and covers the moon
the earth is a grey haze, and empty.
Endlessly detailed forms everywhere, they seep into my mind,
the night is my realm.

No sounds but the wind, and the rustle of rain
the world has gone to bed, and left me.
Everything I see is beautiful, a new world from the day,
the night is my realm.

The dark is not death, to me it is life
it sees me, supports me, it holds me.
Reflections in a pool of water, what the day is to me,
the night is my realm.

A flash lights the sky, and all is again real
the night is all I know, it is me.
Because I belong to it you see, as it belongs to me,
the night is my realm.

And as the thunder rolls by, I roll away with it,
on the crashing waves of sleep, by the sea.
And I have peace, in the night,
